There’s nothing we love more than taking our ceramics out for a breath of fresh air, and what better way to connect with like-minded creatives than around a beautifully styled table, sharing fantastic food?

That’s where Truffles & Ruffles steps in—a heartfelt venture that seamlessly blends creativity, collaboration, and community. What began as casual gatherings around kitchen tables has flourished into a thriving platform, bringing together professionals from the design and interiors world to inspire, connect, and grow.
In this exclusive interview, we speak to Anna and Annie, the talented duo behind Truffles & Ruffles. They share the story of their shared journey, the values that underpin their work, and the magic of their gatherings. From their decades-long friendship to the art of crafting breathtaking tablescapes and seamless event logistics, Anna and Annie reveal the passion and purpose driving this unique venture.
What inspired you both to start Truffles & Ruffles? Was there a particular moment or experience that sparked the idea?
Truffles & Ruffles began around our kitchen tables as we gathered friends and fellow creatives, realising the magic that happens when people in the design and interiors world connect beyond the workspace. We noticed a gap for a warm, genuine space to foster these connections - something not tied to screens or passwords. It was that desire for true community, combined with our mutual love for hosting, that inspired us to turn these gatherings into Truffles & Ruffles, a place where creative professionals can find encouragement and collaboration.
Could you share a bit about your friendship and how it has shaped your partnership in this business?
We've known each other since we were 15, meeting through our parents, and over the years, our friendship has become our creative foundation. From shared adventures to supporting each other’s ideas, that trust and openness really define how we work together. It’s been amazing to have that same sense of closeness and shared vision in our professional life; it means we can lean on each other and take Truffles & Ruffles in directions we might not explore alone.
What are the values at the heart of Truffles & Ruffles, and how do you bring them to life in the community you’ve built?
At the heart of Truffles & Ruffles is connection, inclusivity, and creative growth. We strive to make every event feel intimate and welcoming, and we’re always excited to see how people leave with new friendships and fresh ideas. By keeping things personal and authentic, we’re able to foster a community where people can openly share, feel valued, and explore new possibilities together. We want our guests to feel truly part of something lasting.
Anna, could you tell us about your creative process for designing tablescapes? What goes into making each setting unique and memorable?
My approach to tablescape design is rooted in finding that balance between beauty and personality. I think about each element - the colours, textures, and even the story behind the pieces I use—to ensure they all add something meaningful to the atmosphere. I love weaving in details that make people feel at ease while sparking curiosity. Every tablescape is about creating a visual story, often inspired by the seasons, the event’s theme, or the individual people attending.
Annie, what’s it like managing the logistics behind the scenes? What are the key elements in making everything flow so smoothly?
It can be quite a challenge at times, especially when a carefully made plan throws a spanner in the works at the last minute. However, working together makes all the difference—Anna is absolutely brilliant at adapting effortlessly, and together we always find a way around it. The key elements to making everything flow smoothly are careful planning (you can never over-plan!), allowing enough time to handle unexpected surprises, and ensuring we can give each event our total dedication.
Final thought: enjoy it. Creating a positive atmosphere is key; when we’re aligned and excited, that energy carries through to the event itself.
What advice would you give to other creative duos or friends considering starting a venture together?
Our best advice is to build on your friendship first - be each other’s support, and make space for open conversations about ideas, hopes, and even worries. Balance each other’s strengths and keep a shared vision at the core. You’ll need to approach the journey with flexibility and patience, but remember to celebrate each little success together. Finding joy in the process as well as the outcome is key!
What’s the one item on a tablescape that you believe makes the biggest difference, Anna?
For me, the magic of a tablescape lies in the layers of details and those unexpected elements that surprise and delight. I love to think about each piece thoughtfully, from the texture of the linens to the small accents like place card holders or mini vases. And, of course, candles—always! I truly believe more is more here. Candlelight brings such warmth and ambiance; it instantly elevates the whole experience and makes the setting feel inviting and intimate. It’s those small, intricate touches that transform a simple table into a memorable one.
Annie, if you could have any designer or creative genius join Truffles & Ruffles, who would it be and why?
Wow, what a question—there are so many incredible creatives and inspiring independent businesses out there! I couldn’t possibly name just one. At the heart of Truffles and Ruffles is our passion for bringing together both emerging talents and established creatives. We believe each designer and collaboration has its own spark of genius, and we’re always open to discovering more. What does a perfect creative gathering look like to each of you?
For me (Anna), it’s a gathering where people feel like they can unwind, connect, and share freely. A space full of beautiful elements that feel approachable and tactile, where conversations happen naturally over shared meals and warm surroundings.
For me (Annie), a perfect creative gathering is all about creating a space where people feel truly comfortable, free, and safe to be themselves and share openly. It might sound a bit sentimental, but what always stands out is the smiles—the warmth and connection as our guests arrive as strangers and leave as friends. It’s such a special transformation to witness every time.
We know you’re both big fans of Casa De Folklore! Which pieces from our collection would you most love to adorn your home?
Absolutely! The mix of traditional craft and modern design is so inspiring. We’d love to bring in some of your beautiful hand-embroidered table linens, especially the ones with rich, intricate patterns—they’d add so much warmth to any tablescape. And those unique, vibrant kilims would be perfect for cozying up our living spaces while adding that touch of artistry and heritage we adore.
It also goes without saying how much we loved styling our Truffles and Ruffles table with your stunning ceramic tableware, those ripple plates are simply irresistible! They truly bring a special, timeless quality to any setting.
