Hi Moon! What inspired you to start Kult Kitchen?

Kult Kitchen was born out of my passion for using food as a tool for nourishment, healing, and empowerment. I’ve always been fascinated by the way our food choices can impact our health—physically, mentally, and emotionally. As someone who’s personally experienced hormonal imbalances and struggled with digestive issues, I wanted to create a space where food is not just fuel, but a source of vitality, joy, and wellness. Kult Kitchen is a place where I can share my knowledge and provide high-quality, nutritious meals that support people in feeling their best, from the inside out.

How would you describe your approach to healthy eating?

My approach to healthy eating is all about balance, nourishment, and simplicity. It’s about choosing whole, organic ingredients that are rich in nutrients, and allowing them to shine in their natural form. I focus on a gut-healing, anti-inflammatory diet that’s tailored to individual needs, prioritising quality over quantity. I also believe in the importance of being mindful of what’s on our plates, creating meals that nourish both the body and the soul. I’m a big advocate of eating with intention—mindfully selecting foods that support our hormones, digestion, and overall well-being.

What’s one small but powerful change people can make to their diet?

One small but powerful change I recommend is incorporating more healthy fats into your diet—things like grass fed ghee, avocado, and extra virgin olive oil. Healthy fats support hormone balance, provide long-lasting energy, and help your body absorb fat-soluble vitamins. These fats also nourish your skin, brain, and joints. If you’re still using refined seed oils like sunflower or rapeseed oil, it’s time to swap them for nutrient-dense fats. Your body will thank you for it!

What’s your go-to morning ritual for a healthy start?

I start my day with iron-rich water followed by a citrus-ginger tea. Depending on where I’m at in my menstrual cycle, and what season it is, I’ll then have either a warm or cold breakfast. I love a savoury breakfast, as it’s nourishing, balances blood sugar, and sets me up for the day. I feel it’s the best way to kickstart my metabolism and maintain energy throughout the morning.

Can you tell us a super easy swap for better gut health?

Instead of buying store-bought sauerkraut (which often contains preservatives and lacks live cultures) or eating processed coleslaw loaded with seed oils and sugar, make your own sauerkraut at home! It’s one of the cheapest, most versatile gut-friendly foods, and it’s packed with probiotics to support digestion, immunity, and overall gut health.

You can add it to salads, serve it with organic meats, beans, or tofu, or even eat it straight from the jar. Plus, homemade sauerkraut ferments naturally, making the nutrients in the cabbage even more bioavailable.

If you could only use three ingredients for the rest of your life, what would they be?

If I had to pick three, I’d go with ghee, coconut (it’s so versatile, you can make everything from oil to flour to milk), and sea moss. These ingredients are packed with good fats, minerals, and nutrients. They’re great for gut health, hormonal balance, and skin health. Plus, they can be used in such a wide range of recipes!

What’s your ultimate self-care ritual?

My ultimate self-care ritual is all about nourishing my body from the inside out. I start my day with my morning ritual (iron-rich water and citrus-ginger tea), followed by a nutritious meal that supports my energy levels. I also ensure I’m getting plenty of movement—whether that’s a long walk, yoga, or a workout. Taking time to connect with nature, whether that’s walking by the canal or having time outside in daylight, also makes a huge difference.

What’s one food myth you’d love to debunk?

One food myth I’d love to debunk is the idea that fats make you fat. Healthy fats, like those from avocados, ghee, and extra virgin olive oil, are crucial for hormonal balance and can actually improve cholesterol levels. These fats help regulate blood sugar, give us energy, and are necessary for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K. Refined seed oils (like sunflower and rapeseed oil), on the other hand, are highly processed and inflammatory. So, it’s not the fats that are the problem, but the type of fats we’re consuming.

Any quick tips for people looking to create their own nourishing rituals?

Start by honouring your body’s needs and paying attention to what feels good. Create small, simple rituals that support your physical and emotional well-being. This could be something like starting your day with a warm cup of herbal tea, taking a walk after dinner, or having a gut-friendly meal prepared for you in advance. It’s all about consistency and making small, sustainable changes that nourish you from the inside out.

What’s your favourite piece from our collection?

I absolutely love the starter plate—it has such a retro nostalgia to it! The 70s was definitely my style era, and I wanted that to really tie into this collection in a subtle, tasteful way. The warm, earthy tones and timeless design make every meal feel a little more special. It’s perfect for those moments when you want to bring some extra beauty into your day and elevate the dining experience. Plus nothing beats eating off handmade earthenware ceramics.

Moon’s go-to Sauerkraut recipe:

Beetroot, Red Cabbage & Ginger Sauerkraut

Ingredients:

• 1 small red cabbage (shredded)

• 1 medium beetroot (grated)

• 1-inch fresh ginger (grated)

• 1 ½ tbsp sea salt

• Filtered water (if needed, to top up)

Method:

1. Place the shredded cabbage, grated beetroot, and ginger in a large bowl. Sprinkle with 1 ½ tbsp sea salt.

2. Massage the mixture with your hands for 5-10 minutes until it softens and releases liquid (this is your brine).

3. Pack the mixture tightly into a clean glass jar, pressing it down so the brine covers the vegetables. If needed, add a little filtered water to fully submerge them.

4. Place a weight (like a small glass or cabbage leaf) on top to keep everything submerged.

5. Cover with a breathable cloth or loose lid and place the jar in a dark environment (like a cupboard). Let it ferment at room temperature for 5-7 days (longer if you prefer it more tangy). Check daily to make sure it stays covered in liquid.

6. Once it reaches your desired taste, seal the jar with a lid and store it in the fridge—it will last months!

Once the sauerkraut is ready, I love dressing it with this tangy mustard-pomegranate vinaigrette:

Mustard-Pomegranate Vinaigrette

• 1 tbsp Dijon mustard

• 1 tbsp maple syrup (or to taste)

• 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

• 1 tbsp pomegranate seeds

Method for dressing:

1. In a small bowl, whisk together Dijon mustard, maple syrup, and extra virgin olive oil.

2. Once well combined, stir in the pomegranate seeds for a little burst of sweetness and colour.

3. Drizzle over the sauerkraut.

This combination is not just tasty but also gut-healing and immunity-boosting—thanks to the probiotics in the sauerkraut, anti-inflammatory ginger, and immune-supporting pomegranate. It’s the perfect way to add nourishment and vitality to any meal.
