Casa De Folklore work closely with craftsman to keep Romanian tales and traditions alive in a modern world; a world where heritage craft has been cast away and is in danger of extinction.
These unique pieces are made by hand, based on local, natural products, and according to ancestral techniques, passed down from generation to generation.
A rural household would not function without their gleaming milk jugs, woven rugs and wooden utensils. Once indispensable to all housekeepers, these items are now no more than simple curiosities. By introducing traditional craft into a modern world, we are able to save dying skills and protect the legacy our ancestors have left behind.

The Craftsman
Husband and wife, Maricel & Maria Mocanu, are the only potters left in the south-east Moldova region. The clay pots that form in Maricel’s hands are made using traditional techniques passed down for generations. The clay used, collected from the nearby Siret river, is kneaded and kneaded to remove all impuritiues. Each piece is moulded in their home atelier, then skilfully hand-painted in a traditional design. No two pieces are exactly the same, each one telling the story of its journey from the river bed, through Maricel & Maria's skillful hands, to your table.
